If you've had difficulty bulking up your calves -- even with years of exercising -- Bayshore Plastic Surgery has a solution: calf implants. Plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Greenwald has helped many men and women from Tampa, Clearwater, Sarasota, St Petersburg and elsewhere in Florida achieve more shapely legs since opening his practice in 1998, and he may be able to help you get your ideal look too.
Just like you, countless others have explored the possibility of calf implants in recent years and an increasing number decide to get the surgery. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were 1,170 calf implant surgery procedures performed in the United States in 2003; that’s 1,021 more calf operations than the previous year.
Its gaining popularity likely has to do with the many positive
benefits that calf implants deliver, including:
- Improved proportion of legs to body
- Improved self confidence
- Correction of congenital and physical defects caused by Polio, Spina Bifida, and Clubfoot
- Improved appearance of legs in shorts, skirts, or dresses
What happens during a procedure involving calf implants?
First, Dr. Greenwald will meet with you in his Tampa, FL
office to assess which calf implants best suit you. He'll
choose from various sizes, all made from soft, yet solid,
silicone. For the procedure, you'll be placed under local
or general anesthesia, and Dr. Greenwald will make incisions
along the natural creases behind your knees. He'll then create
a pocket big enough to insert and securely fit the implant.
The calf implants are placed above the muscle, and the incision
is then stitched up.
Surgical Concerns
There are some risks involved with calf implants such as infection, bleeding, and the possibility of your implants shifting and appearing asymmetrical.
For about two weeks after your plastic surgery, there will be some discomfort in the calves -- akin to soreness that follows rigorous exercise. You can return to work within 10 days, but it will take about six weeks for you to return to your normal physical activities.
