What happens during a liposuction procedure?
At Bayshore Plastic Surgery in Tampa, liposuction begins with one or more incisions within the skin’s natural folds, near the area to be treated. Dr. Greenwald will then insert a slim, hollow tube through the incision, toward the underlying fat. If he’s using ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), then the catheter will vibrate at a high speed, liquefying the fat for easy removal. This technologically advanced method used in conjunction with suction-assisted lipectomy causes less pain, leaves neighboring tissue unharmed, and yields better results.
Surgical Concerns
Liposuction is considered a safe procedure that produces effective results. Still, some patients may experience the following side effects: fluid collection, asymmetry, bleeding, infection, and wound problems. It is also possible for contour deformities to occur, but this is rare. Although patients have to wear a custom-made compressive garment for up to six weeks after liposuction surgery to encourage proper contouring, they can usually return to normal activities about two to three days into the recovery period.
